dance with the dance evaluation

We have decided to create a unique genre for the opening sequence by making a horror comedy genre that has 2 gay characters.  The aim of the opening sequence was to make the audience laugh and also to represent gay people as regular individuals.  We thought we could do this by including gay characters in a horror film, rather than most films about gay people that focus on sexuality.

In the opening shot we used a sequence of shots to show a normal day as boy walking into  his sixth form to relax with his friends and watch TV. then there was a breaking news about a break out of zombies in the area. this then open the door to the horror genre. As the news report was being aired the zombie open the door , in this scene i have used sound effect from Michael Jackson sound bad, this then created a comedic atmosphere. In between the shot i have used clips from the zombie walking towards the door and voice over of the news report to show that the two this are acting simultaneously. I then used a close up shot reverse shot of the zombie looking at the protagonist like in the western style, as the zombie then walk towards the protagonist, he put up hi8s finger and tut tut the zombie, this would create a feeling a comedy because i wasn't what the audience intended would happen .

The scene was then jump in to a colourful background where both the protagonist and the antagonist was dancing of to see which is better, at the end the scene then flip to a X factor style stage where the judges booed the performance while taunting the X factor judges.

overall i think the open sequence could have being very much better, the other members of the group didn't put a lot of work into the filming and editing of the open sequence because of this i had to do all the work, this mean that they wasn't good quality because i had to rush to reach the dead line.

Analysis of the opening sequences of Seven pound

SEVEN POUND

In begin of the opening sequence of seven pound, the opening sequence starts with the sound bridge of a slow classical music with the sound of a phone being dialled with the voice of a woman from the 911 ambulance department, the tells the audience that someone is in trouble or in need of some type medical attention, this was then followed by a close up shot the protagonist sitting on the floor of a dark room with a phone in his hand dialling 911, the director focus on using natural lighting he use only one light source form the left side, cinematographer as also use a blue gel to create the natural light effect type of the protagonist face. The room that the protagonist is in is dark, the use of a dark room may symbolise that the person is a lonely man.

The protagonist begins to talk to a lady he said to the lady, “I need a ambulance,” the lady then ask him why which he then replied, “because am going to kill myself,” this seal my first assumption that the person is a lonely man which is about to kill himself for whatever reason, this also tells the audience that the story line to story is fragmented and that is also start off with a high climax situation, the director use this type of This will make the audience what to know what happen to make the protagonist what to kill himself.

The body language and his facial expression tell the audience that this man is in distressed and he’s also that he’s feeling sad about something.

The scene the cut to a different scene of a low shot of the ocean from under the water, it show the same man swimming in the ocean, it then moves to a birds high view of him swimming in the ocean which follows by a shot of him getting out the sea. The narrative of the same man begins to speaks about God creating the world in seven days and he destroy his in 7 seconds, this would tell the audience this is a flash back of the time leading up to the night that he was about to take his own life.

He begins to walk up the outside stairs of his house to his house. The garden on both side of the stairs has being decorated with beautiful flowers of every colours, it look like they have begin decorated by a female because of the ofeticity and feminity of the positioning of the flowers and the colours.

The scene then goes to the protagonist sitting in his room of his house is a list of peoples name, beside the there is a yes or a no written beside the name of the people, he then call someone on the phone and begin to talk bad thing about the person, the person was a blinder vegan telephone operator. After the long fight over the phone, the protagonist hold is mouth and begin to cry, the tell the audience that he doesn’t feel happy about what he have just done, he then begin to shout out the name of seven of the people that has the yes written next to his there name and start to brake the chair in the room while still shouting out there name, in diagetic roar of his voice begin eco the room.

Then the list of peoples name flash on the screen in a very fast speed scrolling down the page with picture of protagonist and a woman and fast speed moving image of a car driving down a motorway and also a death certificate, then the title of the movie flash on the screen, seven pound. The symbolic meaning of the title sow that the protagonists is planning something and the reason her doing this is because to the death of a woman, I have come to this conclusion because of the other indication that I have picked up on as I was watching that opening sequence, the man life seem to be missing a female partnership, he’s also sad and in the fast past ending of the opening sequence there is image of him with a female, this means that he’s missing someone, his female partner. I just felt like he’s having a mental break down because of the death of someone.

Seven pound budget was just over 55 million dollars. The film was directed by Gabriele Muccino and was written by Grant Nieporte.

It was produced by Columbia Pictures,EscapeArtists,Overbrook Entertianment and Relativity Media.

And was distributed by Audio Visual Enterprises (2009) (Greece) (theatrical),Columbia PIctures, (2008) (USA) (theatrical),Columbia PIctures,(2008) (USA) (all media),Falcon, (2009) (Czech Republic) (theatrical),ITA Film, (2009) (Slovakia) (theatrical),Sony Picture Entertainment,(2009) (Japan) (theatrical),Sony Picture Releasing, (2009) (Germany) (theatrical),Film, (2009) (Slovakia) (theatrical),Sony Picture Entertainment,(2009) (Japan) (theatrical),Sony Picture Releasing, (2009) (France) (theatrical),Film, (2009) (Slovakia) (theatrical),Sony Picture Entertainment,(2009) (Japan) (theatrical),Sony Picture ReleasinFilm, (2009) (Slovakia) (theatrical),Sony Picture Entertainment,(2009) (Japan) (theatrical),Sony Picture Releasing (2009) (UK) (theatrical),Film, (2009) (Slovakia) (theatrical),Sony Picture Entertainment,(2009) (Japan) (theatrical),Sony Picture Releasing (2009) (Netherlands) (theatrical),Film, (2009) (Slovakia) (theatrical),Sony Picture Entertainment,(2009) (Japan) (theatrical),Sony Picture Releasing, (2009) (Singapore) (theatrical) and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Finland (2009) (Finland) (all media).

The CGI was done by K.N.B. Effects Group (special makeup effects) (as KNB EFX Group Inc.), CafeFX (visual effects) and Proof (previsualization).

The character in seven pound are Rosario Dawson, Michael Ealy, Will Smith Woody Harrelson ,Barry Pepper, Madison Pettis, Jack Yang, Joe Nunez Gina, Hecht Robinne, Lee Elpidia, Carrillo Bill, Smitrovich and Sarah Morris.

The list of detail may impact the audience by if the audience is a fan of the protagonist Will Smith or is a fan of films like I robots and independent day the audience will be more interested in seeing the film.

Also if you like the work of the director and the films he have done like Heatango and The Pursuit of Happiness this also with influence the audience to watch seven pound.

The target market of the film is to a Will smith fan and someone that like realist film.

Analysis of the opening sequences of Against The Dark

The opening sequence of the film again the dark starts this on screen computer screen of a message “infected,” begin type on the screen, the message was then dissolved in to a DNA type symbols encoded in blood, a second typing on the screen of a breaker down to the meaning of one of the words on the screen of the first screen appear, typing, it gives the meaning of the verb “trans” followed by the mean “ affect a person, organism with a disease,” this show the audience that the following film is about a epidemic of a virus of some type that have broken open in a mass community or country.

The symbolic relationship in the opening titles is the that because it is short and direct it make it seem like it a last message of some type, and seeing that the last message was infect, it also makes the title seem like a important message to the audience, also the font in which its written in is mostly used in futuristic science fiction film and also in type of military films , ether way this show the audience that the film contain military unit action, science fiction and a element of futuristic action and technology.

Second scene was of a person eating the mutilated body of a person in a frantic manner, the diagetic sound of the infected human was like the sound of a hungry wild animal franticly devouring its prey. Their hands was in it belly feeling to find it organs, there prey’s flesh and blood was all around there face and hand. Then there scene jumped into the third scene and there was darkness, then the second scene flash before you and it was the continuation of the fest of the human victim, the another flash in darkness and then the camera cut to the other people that have being infected by the virus, the camera was set as point of view shot from the audience point of view, the director used this camera technique to make the audience feel like they’re in the room with the infected.

After there was flash cuts of other people in a building of some type with the camera long shot which the quickly zooms in to a close up shot of the victims face.

Then the was a voice over of a female narrator talk about what happen in the early stage of the release of the virus, the director used the voice of the female narrator to add to the graphic imagery of the murder and the caring that taking place in the nation to make the audience begin to feel sad about what happen and allowing the audience to feel that she’s the protagonist of the film and he roll in the film is to fight her was to freedom. This was add by her saying “there was no vac sing or any report of ever getting saved my the military, neighbourhood was wipe out in minutes”

The opening sequence of the film is shot in fast short takes and used a lot of establishing shot of the location to show the disaster of the environment after the outbreak. The font used in the title against the dark looks like is being carved out of a wall and has being eroded by the elements. Symbolically, the use of titles font can be represented as the characters in the film, it shows how the characters had to change and become hard to live because of their environment and it also show that they have being forgotten.

From the information that I have collected on against the dark have come to the conclusion that the film it targeted at a target audience of the age of 18+, the target audience would also be a fan of the protagonist, Steven Sigel, and the target audience would like the genre of horror thriller and action . Also if you like films like under siege and under siege 2 you would also enjoy the film because they both have the same protagonist.

The director Richard Crudo is also well know cinematographer and has a lot of experience within filming and has also work on films like 60 minute and 20/20.

The open sequence of the film address the target audience with the use of horror through the use of the monsters eating there victim, this would attract an audience that like horror and bloody films. Also the open sequence of the film address the target audience if the person like the narration of the world ending and the people are all zombie and the other people have to get food and protect them self from the zombies.

Contruction Preliminary Exercise

In this task I work in a group five with my classmate Adam, Cheryl, Maya and Leslie, to construct a preliminary exercise, using match on action, shot/reverse short and 180-degree rule. We was told that the continuity exercise has to consist of someone entering a room, sitting down and talking using shot reveres shot.

So we as a team agree to start the begging of the continuity exercise with someone entering the room then pasting the key to the camera man, then to the camera man and final to the new reporter, the film starts with a match on action of Cheryl entering the door of the news room passing a key to the Maya, the camera man, which then does a little trick which was kinder like a basket ball player and then finally he pass the key to me, the news reporter. We made several take of the same clip to make sure we got the best possible clip to be used in the editing stage of the preliminary exercise, allow us to select the best clip and used it to create the best possible finish product.

In the making of the editing stage of the preliminary exercise, me and the other members of my team work together as a team to all contribute our own small piece to idea and skills which we contribute to create the finish product, I have learnt many editing techniques from the other member of my team while editing the short video like how to use the short hand version of the keyboard like B for blade tool and A for the arrow tool. I have also had the pleasure of teaching the other member of my team some key skill from me also like, how to use slow motion, green screening and wire frame which allow me to move and size my moving image and the still images.

We also had to use other mean of research like YouTube to feather educate our self’s, we have learnt how to use to Green screening from YouTube, this was one of the most challenging editing technique that we have learn.

Other than editing skills, camera work and the using and effect sound i.e. diegetic, non diegetic and ambient sound, I have learn how to work as a team and as how fun it can be to good alongside someone, because of this i have a lot of fun making the film and editing the finish product of the filming.
